Oscar Fantôche - Prototype II

Oscar Fantôche

Prototype II

12/02/09

Excellent - très original, amusant, charmant et un plaisir d'écouter à plusieurs reprises.
Je crois qu'Oscar sera très réussi s'ils ne sont pas déjà.
Merci de partager votre musique!

Excellent - very original, amusing, charming and a pleasure to listen to again and again.
I think Oscar will be very successful if they are not already.
Thank you for sharing your music!

Love and peace...

As someone else has said, some nice 1980s vibes / grooves going on here... if that's what you want?

Shades of Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Soft Cell, etc., and I think the vocalist sounds a bit like Marc Almond in places: a bit off-key in an interesting and quirky way ('gerissen'?).

However, the songs seem to revolve around the drum machine more than anything else, and could do with more variations in melody, tempo, mood, etc..

It sounds like most of the tracks just end when the band get bored with it, rather than a clear structure (start - middle - end), and there are no 'hooks' - either lyrically or musically. Nothing to get caught in your brain which is catchy or commercial... but that may not be important to the band, so it's not a criticism, just an observation.

There is obviously talent in this group, but I'm not sure they have a clear idea which direction they want to go in. Hey, but what do I know?!

Good luck with everything, guys!

The Knack meets Dr Feelgood, with some other influences thrown in for good measure, but stands out as a high quality album on its own - especially as they're singing in English and not Espanol.

Love the bass and lead guitars, keyboards and vocals. Good songs too.

Get a record deal in Inglaterra or let me know and I'll get you one!

Some great melodic ideas here - OK, with some well-used 3 chord riffs and derivations - but still good to listen to. Like it a lot.

A combination of world music, Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream and others from the 1970s / 80s, which is all good.

Where to from here? It's a niche market in terms of commercial success - if that's what Greg wants - but certainly shows great potential for film soundtracks, etc..
Thanks and good luck!

Don't know who he reminds me of, but just love it. The guy should go far. Any representation in the UK, or is he (they?) keeping things just to the net?
Love it.

Admiro este álbum porque los valores de producción están muy bien, el humor es atmosférico, la música es interesante (sería una banda de sonido de película buena) y el resultado total es memorable. Gracias.

I admire this album because the production values are very good, the mood is atmospheric, the music is interesting (would be a good film soundtrack) and the overall result is memorable. Thank you.

Great production & musical ability. Fantastique!

Just sounds like a band warming up at the start of a gig... the sound could be interesting, but nothing develops in terms of theme, melody, riff or anything else.
The positive thing is that there does seem to be something there to build on. Work on it and good luck!

An incredibly fine work - from the superb technique of the guitar playing to the quality and variety of music contained in this album.
It has everything: brilliant melodies, great riffs and guitar runs, energy, excitement, mood and a lightness of touch or a heavy driving force when needed.

This guy should be discovered - if he hasn't been already!

Thank you.

Personal data

Love all forms of music. My heroine is Joni Mitchell - the best lyricist ever. But my tastes vary a lot - from Joni to Black Eyed Peas, Elbow, Brian Eno, Tangerine Dream, Bach, Handel, Neil Young, Crosby Stills & Nash, Paul Simon, Amy Winehouse, Raconteurs, Bryan Adams, Sting, Debussy, Mussorgsky, Tomita, Michael Buble, Jamie Cullum, Suzanne Vega, ZZ Top, Shaun Colvin, Nitin Sawnhey, Goldfrapp, Duffy, Squeeze, Crowded House, to... anyone original. Into world music, jazz, euro-rock, guitars, synths, ambient, urban hip-hop, soul, r'n'b, drum'n'bass, baroque... just make it good.
