Kellee Maize - Integration

Kellee Maize

Integration

14/11/11

This time around, Kellee delves deeper into her spiritual side. Hints of it were seen in her previous record, Aligned Archetype [ http://bit.ly/ukl640 ] (which garnered more than 135 thousand downloads here in Frostclick alone) but now she fully embraces it in this record. In her own words, the album is "my efforts to integrate and unify the dualistic sides of myself and the world."

Much of the inspiration from the album hails from Kellee's experiences with Landmark Education, her "time spent with a Mayan messenger named Ac Tah," soaking up various books and documentaries, and overall just interacting with inspiring men and women in Pittsburgh.

Although the album is more personal and infused with the artists spiritual perspective, it doesn't alienate listeners at all. Kellee manages to not only put her best foot forward but blinds and impresses as she does. Tracks like, Don't Stop and Divine, come equipped with meaningful lyrics that she masterfully weaves with impressive beats and samples. Meanwhile, Mad Humans [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcDLqQITRo8 ], is a colorful cut that commands the audience to listen at once. It's this capability to mesmerize her listeners that makes her a unique and interesting artist.

Whether you are into the lyrical and spiritual expression of the songs or not, there's no denying the fact that Integration is impressive. Besides, you gotta love someone who has so much dedication and love for her craft that she's offering such a great album absolutely free and under a Creative Commons License.

Although this album is three years old, it's still intriguing and definitely worth checking out. It opens with the 16 (!) minute long track, Gender Hacking. If you love progressive rock, you can tell from the onset that this one will be a real treat. You don't get any vocals until about the 5 minute mark and leading up to that is a beautiful mix of bass, synth, guitars and moody beats. Vocal work is similar to Maynard James Keenan which already wins props in my book. Even though this one is a bit long, it definitely sets the stage really well for the entire album.

Other songs that are worth checking out include La Puerta, which mixes a lovely Latin vibe to the cut. It's also sung in Spanish, which adds to the psychedelic rock feel of the song. Meanwhile, Pi, is also another awesome cut. It runs for about 11 minutes and true to form for Nude; the song mixes instrumentals with subdued vocal work.

Although there's a danger from the group sounding as if they are trying too hard to achieve a Tool or Muse-like sound; there are several tracks in the record that will certainly make true blue "progists" smile.

If you are not a fan of Japanese rock bands or simply can't appreciate it... However, if like me, you've grown up fascinated with almost anything Japanese, including Dragonball and Pokémon, then this record is quite a treat.

Each track is fun to listen to and definitely worth checking out and downloading.

The band is made up of founders Shinnosuke Shirakura and Ken Fukuda. Theyare joined by Christopher O'Reilly, and Michael Jackson impersonator, Takashi Hasegawa. The group has been around since 2008 performing their brand of Japanese alternative pop rock. They continue to release one free single every month on their site. Their previous records include the four track compilation, Lettuce Colored Umbrella, and the Christmas album, My Bloody Christmas. The records were released in October and December of last year, respectively.

Some of the must listen cuts in my opinion include the opener, Crushed Beneath the Wheels. Even though it might sound like a typical Japanese pop rock cut, that's actually part of its appeal. The track has a nice bass rhythm and the melody is quite fun. Another track worth checking out is the very 90s sounding cut, Family of Parrots. This features pop singer, Hana Sekitori.

Bryyn - House Plants

Bryyn

House Plants

The album is filled with intensely engaging cuts sprinkled with random bits of sound to make it shine and sparkle. This quaint, eclectic record opens with the reflective "What I Hope". With nothing but quiet guitars and very melodramatic vocals, it's hard not to imagine this track playing in some faraway radio while sitting down near a small lake dock; the cool breeze passing by and random patches of sunshine showing through.

"So Well" is another awesome track that was also featured in Bryyn's Invertible album. This electro acoustic pop track mixes laid-back guitar work and a very catchy beat. Meanwhile, Fractals, is a more upbeat tune that dances into new wave territory. It's amazing how Bryyn easily mixes and treads between folk, electronic, indie pop/rock with his music. There were parts of the song that reminded me of a more subdued and overly sober Isaac Brock.

Other must-listen tracks, in my opinion, include "It's Not Working", with its shimmery sound as well as endearing vocals; as well as "Paper Thin", for its simple but relaxing atmosphere.

Although some might argue about labeling his music as trip-hop when its leaning more towards straightforward industrial sound, there is no doubt that certain tracks on this album centers on thought provocation which is the core of trip-hop. Stop!, for instance, features a woman on the verge of being a victim to a crime.

L'autre endroit compiles heavy guitars and synthetic beats that takes you for a ride into the unknown.

The best reason to listen to Alison's songs would be simply to catch a glimpse of her powerful and ethereal vocals. She fills you with a longing to sit back and enjoy her music...

CNSM Sessions #1 opens up with a Mardi Soir, or Tuesday Evening, a mellow, acoustic track with great vocals to match. It's a great tune to listen to when you're sipping that cold beer and passing the time away. On the other hand, Cette Vie, "This Life" is the perfect song to cap the album. It's slow and quiet, perfect for close dancing with somebody you've been eyeing for awhile inside the bar.

(..) From dark scenes of the malevolent stepmother, to the first kiss of the sweet maiden and the handsome prince, Fairytale really captured those moments. You can feel as if you are watching a story unfolding in your mind, and this music album serves as the scoring. Exquisite details on the melodies, each one with a story to tell. Powerful, dreamy and yet these melodies linger in your ears and never fail to let you dream.

Some personal favorites would be Moon Waltz with the flute and the glockenspiels, plus Awakening with its piano melodies that certainly awaken your senses and emotions.

Fairytale captures that special place inside our hearts, the part wherein we always believe in fairies and in happy endings.

Electronic trip-hop and down tempo instrumental tracks that make you wish your break was longer than just 15 minutes... Et_ creates rockish, instrumental electronic music that resonates with maturity and great sense of balance. As long as you get over the fact that the title sounds like an up and coming emo band, you'll realize that et_ is really worth listening to.

He incorporates fat sounding beats, tucks in a bit of acoustic on the side and some rock stuff to show you what he's capable of when it comes to software and guitars. Not bad for someone who got started in music playing a "half-broken guitar down from the attic."

The Agency of Missing Hearts is comprised of 11 tracks. It opens with Children which starts off with a weird beeping sound, along with some narration and then flows to a danceable beat, filled with synths. It's like riding a spaceship on hyperspeed where all you see is nothing but a flash of blurry stars coming and fading away. At the other end of the album, you'll hear 11 which is a more down tempo track with slightly dancey beats. The opening parts of the track reminds me of a runner gearing up to make a final run, as if he's anticipating the loud bang(!) of the gun before he starts off running like his life depended on it.

Et_ certainly creates a great fusion of electro synth pop beats and acoustic with a tinge of rock thrown in the mix. His songs would fit perfectly, playing in some indie night club in the near outskirts of town.

This is one of my favorites on Jamendo right now. It's very chilled, purely enjoyable, and relaxing. The lyrics are funny, the sound is fresh and I just can't stop listening to it (even though it is really not my genre). Keep up the good work!
