There's more than bargained for here. It's schooled musicianship with solid R&R meshed with club beats, dramatic use of vocals, and sneaky piano & strings pulled in with a narrative cool. This is great. This is smart. Drop the day job.
Normally speaking I keep away from country folk stuff. It's pretty much about being up to the neck with the likes of Hardin, Dylan, and Cohen etc.. This is a positive drowning, but looking around I don't find much new folk sound that comes along that pulls its own curve. The genre tends to demand complicity. I double clicked this in the hope of getting away from all the endless techno drudge on this site and was surprised by a freshness of lyrics, a lack of overproduction and decent throb that carried me along. I'm definitely downloading this and spreading it around to my more acoustic eared friends. If I tripped over the threshold of your local bar I might bear with the bad beer and take a seat. I like it a lot. Thanks.
