It's not a bad album, but rather disjointed. I see that some reviewers didn't like it at all, although I think some of the dislike may be based on a misunderstanding. I see a review that says "this is not opera". In Italian "opera" simply means "work", not the English/French usage which means "upmarket musical." In this context "Opera 1" simply means "my first work", so don't expect Wagnerian shouting and crashing.
I like "Forest's creature", I don't like the pitch bending on several of the tracks it just reminds me of a damaged record player. But there are some interesting ideas struggling to get out.
I'm not a fan of the faery tale in this sort of context, it's all a little twee. But despite this, the album has good moments and it's worth listening to at least once. Probably not a keeper though, I can see that if you invited some friends in and played this they would nod at you politely while edging towards the nearest exit.
For people of a certain age this brings back memories of the bossa nova. Very cool, laid back sounds. I can see this being played in the piazza of a city like Atri in the Abruzzi, where summer evenings are for jazz, dancing, and a promenade as the cicadas add their own rythm.
Recommended.
As an Anglo- Tedesco- Italo- phone I'm immediately at a disadvantage with this album. I can't follow the songs well enough to appreciate the full scope of the humour. Although Italian and French have points of contact, most of this is dog talk to me (i.e. -- mumble mumble -- Rover -- mumble --).
What is beyond doubt is the humour of the music itself and the quality of the performances. To me this ranks among the best French musical tradition, the wit that is contained within the delicacy of the music.
Highly recommended. Indeed it doesn't matter what your language is, if you don't have this album your collection has a hole in it.
BTW, have I understood the group's name, "on the Kids' Bed"?
