Having listened to your first 3 Jamendo albums, *apologies for being so late on this 4th one*, you seem to be more confident in yourself and your abilities. A little less repetitious and willing to experiment with sound choices more. Connection and Echoes Of Fear are especially strong tracks, they sound like old skool electro like Gary Numan remixed by Tiesto ! Your work keeps getting better and better :)
Keke, un autre disque merveilleux !
Encore des melodies fortes. 80's party was my favourite. This album has a lot of very 80's sounding synth sounds, and a lot of FM type DX7 sounds, which is rare for you. (or modern equivalents such as FM8 or Sytrus etc).
Good use of muting and arrangement here too. I am not the biggest fan of octave basses, but you used them less on this album than some earlier releases. I also think the drums are more varied on this album and that works great.
My only constructive thought is that OCCASIONALLY some of the songs seem a little empty to me, and could have been filled in with pads or incidental sounds, but then again, I am known for layering too many sounds and having it all become a blur, so a more minimal approach can be better.
Enjoyable as always. Merci beaucoup et amicalement !
This album certainly is a well produced and has some very cool dancefloor orientated tracks. If I was in the mood to dance, this would be a great choice to blast up loud and cut loose. C.J. has shown talent and diversity in his range of Jamendo albums. I have to say that this album will be a modern DJs dream, but I also have to say that it does not quite live up to 'Neon Lights' as my favourite. Some of the sythns are a little too commercial orientated in places, those 'trancey' type epic lead/chords and a lot of use of vocoder, which is popular but a tad overused IMHO. The drums are a bit tougher and more 'in your face' than previous albums, pumping out, which is great for the dancefloor. I do love the mixes and production quality and most of the sounds. Where Neon Lights differs, is that a touch more melody, and not as many 'gimmicky' sounds, and is a great listen through headphones with a slightly less frenetic pace and a touch more of the ambient and retro quality that I love. However, this album is still a must have, especially for DJs and for pumping loud when you feel like a boost and a dance !
At first, with the title, I was expecting almost a retro synth tribute to Kraftwerk, but within 2 tracks, I realized that the album is more of a modern dance friendly album with just a few references in some of the sumptious analog lead sounds and arps. The driving beats and conga percussion of City and Night Live immediately brought that home to me. This album fuses together the very best of early analog sounds, the more instrument realistic bells and pads of FM and wavetable synths and the modern beats and arrangement. Very enjoyable and definately recommended !
I really like the blend of old and new age synth sounds, the driving dance rhythms and the use of FX on this album. Very cool :) Downloaded.
Bruce, once again you inspire me and amaze me with this collection of beautiful sounds. The variety of this music draws you in and keeps you listening. From the more upbeat funkier/rockier tunes such as The Night Jenny Saved The Sailors to the more contemporary improvised piano led jazz of la vie sous la mer, there really is a range of sounds and emotions convenyed by the music to keep one interested. I have always loved your bass playing but see some extra angles and growth in your keyboard and drum playing on this album, backed up ably with some nice guitar flourishes. As always, thoughful arrangements and care and attention to the recording process mean that the album has a very clear and clean sounding tone which is very pleasant. A melting pot of aural delight and highly recommended !
Interesting and varied piece of electronica/IDM. Not usually keen
on songs that go on for 10 minutes plus, but the ones here are listenable and mostly interesting. Nice use of rhythms and some odd off beats and glitches etc. Sounds vary from calm to schizo. Nice work, worth a listen !
I think this album is your best yet, and shows growth both in terms of diversity, sound choice and production quality. I really like the blend of sounds, you do some interesting things with bass sequencing. Although the production leans towards prog house with a psytrance-ish flavour at times, it has more to keep the attention of the casual listener as well as someone needing a good sweaty workout in a club !!
Nice album. Mostly well produced and mixed, occasionally a tad too repetitious. The opening track is especially strong, great guitar tones.
I don't know why you feel the need to put everyone down with your many harsh reviews of others, especially being a 'Buddhist trying to rid myself of negative thoughts'. Your music reflects peace and tranquility, yet you come across as hostile and aggressive in your reviews of others. I don't know if this makes you feel superior, but it is not necessary to belittle others, your music stands on it's own 2 feet. My advice to you - let people remember you for your beautiful music, not for your sometimes obnoxious reviews !!
Anyway, enough about that. The music is very enjoyable on this album, I like this album best from your several uploaded albums and EPs.
Nice production, totally disagree with SaReGaMa who it seems has some kind of inferiority complex and likes to put down other's music, which is a pity as his own music is often nice and he doesn't need to belittle others to have credit for his own work.
I especially like the clean and clear sound, the bass playing is especially stellar with some great improvisational sounds on guitar and piano. I agree that it sometimes has that Santana influence with the latin percussion but Bruce makes this work his own. Very relaxing music that is great to put on after a hard day at work with a cool beer and a comfy chair.
