The songs on An Epilogue are bastards, that’s for sure, but that doesn’t mean they should be orphaned.  Most were written during the tenure of the band I led, A Toothless Life, which is one of the reasons I’ve credited it to that group.  The songs “Read ‘em and Weep” and “Life’s Cheap in a Blizzard” were performed by previous bands of mine (Jump Sunday and Sherlock, respectively).  I include them here to give them their proper due and because I feel they fit into my songwriting continuum.

The tracks are arranged in semi-chronological, semi-Freudian order.  Most were written in a similar frame of mind, the same I found myself in during the time I wrote under the name A Toothless Life.  Many strings tie these songs together; some are apparent, some aren’t.  It may seem hodge-podged or ham-fisted.  In fact, I hope it does.  I try to wring a lot out of my work and I know a little bit of chaos can be as healthy as harmony.

All songs were written and recorded by me, Derek Porter.  I performed all the instrumentation, except for the following people, who I greatly admire, consequently –

Danny Eddy – drums, “Read ‘em and Weep”

John Scott – bass/vocals, “Life’s Cheap in a Blizzard”

Chad Molloy – second guitar, “Life’s Cheap in a Blizzard”

Evan Marien – string pad, “Vapid, Insipid Synonyms”

Nathan Retzer – drums, “Some Cheap Anesthetic,” “Scoliosis,” “An Acrostic” and “Lola”

Jason Culver – wood block, “Some Cheap Anesthetic”

Tracks 11 and 20 were featured in films made by my brother, Jeph.  You can find his work here – www.dirtycricket.net

Cet enregistrement me plait beaucoup.

Bravo!
