Some jazz from modern times, some stories from another world.

This is my new album, La vie sous la mer: eight instrumentals, which tell eight interconnected stories.  The songs can be found on Jamendo, but the stories can be read in the [free] companion book:

(At present, the only version is in English; I apologize to my French-speaking friends for that.)

All of the tracks were composed, performed, and recorded by Bruce H. McCosar.

Bruce, once again you inspire me and amaze me with this collection of beautiful sounds. The variety of this music draws you in and keeps you listening. From the more upbeat funkier/rockier tunes such as The Night Jenny Saved The Sailors to the more contemporary improvised piano led jazz of la vie sous la mer, there really is a range of sounds and emotions convenyed by the music to keep one interested. I have always loved your bass playing but see some extra angles and growth in your keyboard and drum playing on this album, backed up ably with some nice guitar flourishes. As always, thoughful arrangements and care and attention to the recording process mean that the album has a very clear and clean sounding tone which is very pleasant. A melting pot of aural delight and highly recommended !

Bruce tells a story of Symbiotes, merfolk, werewolves and other deeply mysterious things in his book, "La vie sous la mer," which is downloadable on his site here on Jamendo. It was a fantastic, torturous, poetic and quite convoluted tale and gave me chills as I read it while listening to his marvelous jazz/blues. He uses the voice of a story teller sitting at the fire side in a tavern somewhere, most likely by the sea side. These stories paint vivid imageries, and with plenty of footnotes his thoughts are made clear. Good read Bruce!

The music - Perfect, poetic, warm, and a delight of a listen. These tunes are highly involved with the book so it is especially nice to read and listen at the same time. I think I especially liked "The Illusion of Warmth" which had a very appealing nature. This artist is high on my star chart and I often like to spend a relaxing evening listening to his wonderful sounds from any of his consistently outstanding albums.

I pleasure to listen to. You can float away with your thoughts to this album. Easy, not overbearing with sharp sound, but a cool melodic movement thru tranquility.

very nice bass-work, intense moods

There is a consistent brightness and joy in this album, I found it from beginning to end. The currents interweaving beneath the lush surfaces of those keys, strings, drums, congas become more mysterious because the strangeness, its darkness, is almost out of reach in the brightness of the notes, notes swirling in waves of breaking sea foam, or in the wake behind the sailboats of songs. I am especially enamoured of the mermaid, her skin, what she gives up to live with her human husband who has stolen her pelt, or caused it to melt on the beach like milk. What I love in your version is that he was her destiny. As her destiny is to return to the sea. So many pelts in your stories - not just merpeople, but bears, wolves. Evolution. A bunch of ghost tales that interweave like a sailor's knot. I am enthralled and fascinated by that brightness throughout that is a homecoming. A reunion. Into the Depth Mind. A beautiful album, book, production!
