Lo-fi (usually) home recordings. Many recorded live to cassette, some not, all first take. So, recording and "performance" quality varies wildly throughout. I've tried recording "properly" in studios etc. a couple times in the past, but the results were always sterile-sounding and too perfect - no soul. I like music to be rough and raw. The immediate approach - come up with a song, record it right away, then DONE - has always worked best for me. For what it's worth.
