First Impressions are very important. For me, I liked it's rolling gait and wheezing rhythm, perpetual motion is the key, of one sort or another, whether it be mechanical or electronic. Raw Scrutiny is nice and light, simplicity is key here in a minimalist sense. I think it works well.
Underground Fascination feels subterranean and I think there is a fascination with such geological positioning. Having said that, it is a unique and interesting sensation to be under the terra-not-so-firma. Moment Of Doubt has that puzzling deflection of sound that encapsulates that insecurity so well, with flair.
Shallow Dusk brings us back to an industrial minimalism that works together very well, at quite a brisk pace, with the added bonus of being musically entertained and tantalised on the way. The track has a lighter, more percussive ending. Temporary is guitar led, with the air of an interlude, just passing by. With a few skips and jumps on the way out.
Then, the title track, Shattered Shadows starts strong, its' foundation that of rock with synthetic echoes. Percussion gives it accessible form and structure. Finely crafted music, which I happen to like a lot. Cold Metal Submission has a curious, interesting air, a cool, laid-back feeling, submission indeed, though no real sense of duress. Simply, easy-going track. Liked the brush work at the end, shattered shadows indeed.
Dried Feelings is like a sandstorm of emotion, coming at you from all angles, getting into every crevice of your convoluted brain. Dried feelings lead to emotional drought. Think carefully, before you enter!-) Then, finally, No Return, with a sense of drama to it, something's going down. I feel I hear the ghost of a flying lizard (which I loved, in their time) but surely not? Either way a nice industrial hash, with requisite reverberations. Thanks.
