Writing a review of a Phrozenlight release is never easy. So many know his music so well but many others know nothing of him or his music. So really you need to write two reviews to cover both camps. well here goes:
To the already converted - this is a somewhat different release to his normal styles of either "berlin school" or "spacemusic drone". On first hearing it struck me as not being of the usual standard expected of Phrozenlight but on second play (at 3.30 in the morning) it sounded reassuringly similar but yet different. The fx are more sudden and upfront than a spacemission album. Tthe basic theme is there but kept well back in the mix for a change. This can make for an uncomfortable listen in parts but the odd bit of background "berlin" is there to reassure the ears that all is well. As ever, the technical quality is first rate for an mp3 release.
For those unfamiliar with the Phrozenlight theme I would suggest you leave this release alone for now. It is likely to prove a step too far if you have not heard any material before. You can always come back later when your ears have had the chance to become "educated". Try some of his other releases first, you should find them more friendly to the uninitiated mind. After all there are another 100 you can pick from if you look.
