"First Stint" is a collection of original songs, collaborations and remixes I created between 1999-2007.
The 22 tracks aren’t in the form of an ‘album’ per se, but rather an amalgamation of work that was completed tentatively and casually over 8 years.
“First Stint” (which I think of as a soundtrack to a movie that was never made) is a moody, murky anthology leaning heavily on the music I was listening to at the time. These inspirations included the sickly jazz of ex-Bad Seeds member Barry Adamson, the machine gun beat chopping of DJ Shadow and the deathly beautiful soundscapes of Nine Inch Nails.
Though mainly an amassment of instrumental tracks touching on industrial beats, synth pop loops and jazz undertones, there are a few vocal collaborations here as well. From the sinister yet optimistic “First Sound” with Scottish minimalist beatmakerKidd Cougar, to a poppy alliance with Delaware songwriter Kaitlin Sweeney and onto several rock/electronic crossover tracks with award winning indie band Fool & Horses.
“First Stint” therefore offers closure on one part of my life and possibly leaves a door open for a second stint in the future.
