I've been recording my own original songs since 1998, starting with a cheap four track recorder and a drum machine. I have steadily built my instrument collection to include tons of random keyboards, stringed instruments, and percussion items. So when I decided to join the Peace Corps and head to Morocco in the fall of 2007 and had to pack light, it was an exercise in self editing and creativity.
I whittled my stash down to only an acoustic guitar, a glockenspiel, two harmonicas, a tambourine, some sleigh bells, and some egg shakers. I thought the music that would follow would be a return to my simplistic roots, but boy was I wrong. Using the recording techniques I've been honing for the past decade, and using a pickup and effects unit for the acoustic guitar, not to mention a huge library of samples, I managed to make yet another lush orchestrated pop album.
The songs that would become "Missouri Loves Company" were recorded entirely in Morocco, mostly in the town of Missour where I was stationed. Complications led to me returning home a lot earlier than I had planned on, but for the most part I left these songs untouched. I added drums to a few tracks and organ and electric guitar to another, but other than that everything you hear was produced by my reduced collection of instruments, plus the small ceramic drum and toy oud I bought over there.
So that brings us to today. I decided to give this Jamendo website a try, and hopefully more people will stumble upon my music. I hope you like what you're hearing, if so feel free to add me on Myspace and say hello. And for those of you (like myself) who just aren't satisfied with this website's square album cover and nothing more, you can download a full size printable booklet (inside and out, 4 pages total) here:
