Some (read: most) fail to see the irony in some statements presented here, proceed carefully.

The story so far:

Back in the winter of 2006 my then current band of four years was on its fourth lineup change, only the core three guys remained playing: me (Pedro) on the guitar, the second guitar player - now turned bass player (Paulo) and the drummer (André). Our objective until then was to record at least an EP with some jams/songs we were working on at the time (completely void of "rock star" aspirations - a reason that made a lot of people leave), but this period was especially hard on all of us.

The drummer was on his second major mental breakdown, constantly having concentration problems on rehearsals, then disappearing for months. Paulo was getting married soon and shortly after this his first newborn came into this cesspool we call Earth, for him this meant very little time to rehearse or pursue individual projects.

Like our drummer, my personal life wasn't going great either, spending most of 2005 and 2006 unemployed, completely depressed, drunk and medicated. Seeing the band going nowhere didn't help a lot too as I had a lot of musical ideas going nowhere, so I simply decided that it was better for all of us to just to call it quits and put a nail in the coffin of our over-expired little musical congregation. There was no "fun" left in it anymore, at least for me. No one had professional gear (meaning no drum kit, no amps, no PA and no mikes) completely blocking us from giving an acceptable live performance (my social anxiety didn't help too, meaning that playing live would make me take a lot of medication just to be able to perform).

Despite all this rich soap opera tinged biographical material, I still had a lot of material (and ideas) bubbling in my mind, so I started working on some songs who eventually ended up on the 2007 RPM Challenge album (reference to it omitted on purpose). My thought process was simple: I've played drums before (10 years ago, so I had to basically start from scratch), I could play some simple bass lines and vocally I thought I could just record myself speaking some stupid blabber (or so I thought). The objective was simple, the music was made to please me firstly as it was some sort of exorcism or personal catharsis (the plan still remains mainly the same these days).

Disgusted with the results (especially the sound of my voice "singing" and my poor drumming) I literally stopped playing any instrument between the spring of 2007 and the autumn of 2008, getting sunk into the dark pit and its associated bad habits. In 2009 I felt I could do something better so I recorded the Spit Your Gum EP/Album for the 2009 RPM Challenge, it was rushed (it took 20 days to make, I even ended up using sick days so I could have more time to record, something that was really tough on my other professional life, even though I really had a mild case of the flu), but in the end it sounded good to my ears, lo-fi, my voice replaced with assorted vocal samples of various/infamous loons, backed up by some sort of acid infused doom-rock. I perfected the formula 4 months later with Prefer The Nights, being clean conscienced that I gave my best and was somewhat evolving musically, not realizing that I was releasing "music that you might listen to when it's cold and raining" in June.

Both were hard to make, recording 15 songs all on your own (meaning endless takes for each instrument), mixing and pseudo-producing and mastering (most of the times in just a week, tops) ended up taking its toll on the overall output, I came to the conclusion that I needed more time to just "hear it" or to completely stop hearing it for a month, then start over.

"Spit Your Gum" was a collection of seven rock songs where voice was given to some true "visionaries" of contemporary American/Western culture such as Jeffrey Dahmer and Charles Manson (everyone knows it has been overdone, but that doesn't stop it of being obviously funny); to drugged-out cops who eat hash/weed brownies and call 911 for fear of impending death due to an obvious THC overdose (!); to excellent educational documentaries on the dangers of communism (a "beneficial" consequence of 1950's McCarthyism, being ironic here...), sex and pornography; and also to World War III paranoia and the positive effects of ducking and seeking cover under a desk on the event of a nuclear explosion on your backyard.

"Prefer The Nights" is the follow-up to "Spit Your Gum". More personal on approach, its eight rock songs focus somewhat on some negative aspects of everyday life, namely death, solitude, the end of the world, sex, violence, insanity and mental breakdown.

Sound wise my influences range mostly from everything made between the period of 1965-1989.

On his private side Pedro Pereira/KMP likes (not really) singing in the shower, long beach walks, sunsets, being a perverted misogynist, vomiting and bleeding all over himself.
