Milena Torres
Composer, poet, lyrics maker and singer.
She possess about one hundred compositions registered between lyrics and poetry. She initiates in the musical poems as a participate of a “Sarau” in homage to the 10 years Paulo Leminski’s death, by invitation of the poet and singer Makely Ka and of the poet Alice Ruiz, in 1998.
As singer, she creates the Macumba musical tree project, in 2003. This musical meeting that detaches the African rhythm and its transformations. Macumba in the same year in the CCBH with the show “The stage as a sacred place of Candomblé”. In the following year, it presents twice at FIT (Theatre Internacional Festival), during the events of the FIT’s Bar and in the closing party, when they invite the Primitive Cia of Black Art of Master João.
In 2000, Milena produces show of her own musics in the “casa Matriz” and she makes a partnership with the musician and producer Fernando Muzzi in a musical arrangement.
As composer and lyrics maker, her poetry “The sea to me” is musicada in 2004 by Gustavo Negreiros, singer of Sonorous Black band. Her more recent partnership is a samba’s lyrics with the artist Raquel Coutinho. Currently, some musics of Milena integrate the repertoire of the artists: Marcelo Veronez, Léo Richard and Sílvia Gommes.
As poet, in 2005, she participates of a literary competition of the Municipal City hall of Belo Horizonte. In 2003, she presents her first recital, called “Poetry on me, poetry for you, poetry for all”, in the CCBH, where she interprets poems of Manuel Bandeira, Paulo Leminski and Cecília Meireles. Her more recent work is the recital literary musical: “The image, the silence and the tune” presented in the multimidia room in the Culture Center of Belo Horizonte, project that “improvised” poetry, music and video/image.
The literary musical has the intention to divulge a spontaneous and very feminine poetry, created and done music by Milena Torres. Today, with some sets of ten poetries, she reaffirms her relation with the word through the silence and the inspiration, the love and the intuition and also the music.
The care and the affection for the words became poetry in 2000, and the conducting wire was the love, or better, the its pain. Until then, she had put music in Manuel Bandeira and Paulo Leminski’s poems, having detached an enormous admiration for the poetry of Fernando Pessoa.
Milena Fernandes Torres was born in Almenara, city of the Jequitinhonha river’s valley, verge with Bahia, detail that influences her culture and her attitude. In 1989 she makes her first lyrics and music, and since the beginning she has a trend to look for the expression through the word without shame.
