Heartfelt music-writing abilities combined with grungish sensibilities give Rainvan a unique sound in alternative circuit.
Rainvan consists of Jitendra on vocals and guitar, Aditya on bass, and Devang on drums. Formed in December 2001, the band played its first gig at the IIT Mumbai’s Livewire prelims. This was followed by a creative hibernation, during which the band tweaked its music. The band jammed steadily, working on original material as well as cover versions of bands that had influenced them—Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Massive Attack being a few.
Rainvan returned to the scene with a bang, impressing all present at SPCE College festival in Bombay. An invitation to play at Infinity Music’s Terrace Gig followed, and the band happily accepted. A series of shows followed, including Sub-Culture (2005 and 2006), Calm Like A Bomb (Bombay and Delhi), and Slap Pop—India's First Ever Alternative Rock Festival. Accolades were not far behind. Rainvan won the second place at Space Fest 2004, ahead of 34 other amateur bands. The band has been busy playing a spate of shows in 2006 performing along with Helga’s Fun Castle and Vayu at Calm Like A Bomb, Split at Aura, and doing three-hour unplugged sets at J W Marriot Hotel and Peri-Peri. The band recently returned from a successful tour of the South, playing Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore.
Rainvan has been featured on Gigpad and interviewed by Infinity Music, apart from features in Timeout Mumbai, Mid Day, and other local media.
Rainvan’s first single, Crucified Hopes, has already been featured on We ARE The Scene: Vol. One, and their second track, the moodily optimistic Heal, features in WATS 2, both compilations of Indian rock released by ennui.BOMB. Rainvan’s third track, Hey Where Do We Go has featured in STUPiDiTTiES, an “un-metal” compilation. The lead vocalist also composed background score for a short film recently.
The band is currently busy gearing up for a tour of the North and recording an EP, which they plan to release online soon. You can hear Heal and Crucified Hopes here by right-clicking (and Save Target As) these links.
