Strange work spanning many genres. Most of the time overbearingly complex beats and constantly switching instrumentation create a chaotic soundscape which portrays as many hopes, dreams and fears as may generally exist in a metropolis. This album is just so much - from atmospheric, gentle symphony to harsh trip hop to dark ambient to unclassifiable and onward, lasting a thick 76 minutes. It's a release whose ambition no one can deny, and which will truly captivate you if you just let it.
The music is good, pretty versatile and also relaxing. Mix is not optimal, but it's not a big deal. The main reason of this rather "low" grade is because it's so short, less than 5 minutes long. This sort of music would work the best in longer doses.
The first thing that is realized before you is an elegant Tibetian soundscape. The elegance of this illusion begins to slowly shatter as mechanized bird sounds and demented laughing starts to creep in. So alright, it's an insane asylum built on a scenic mountain location. Almost as good, right? In the next scene wild birdlife, mechanical "sitra" and soft church organs create a morbid but peaceful mood. Improvised, looped "folk" singing. Insane visions must not be far off from this point, and then you may join the rest of us...
In every segment there's always something off. An instrument plays off-key, the singing sounds nonsensical, birds sound a bit TOO lively. Combination of these soft new age sounds and disturbing sense of something being crooked behind the scenes create a formidable "new age horror" mood. Though the music is not optimal, it's got a quaint charm to it and potential to impress. Recommendable.
Distorted sounds, monotonous beat, constant singing about something you can't make one word sense out of. It's memorable, though not in the positive way. It's harshly minimalistic and will hurt your ears. A part of me is impressed and would like to give it a good score. It indeed achieves something not nearly every release does. Another part of me just wishes it to end and would rather give it a bad placeholder score so that I could stop thinking about it. The good side of my nature won and the end result is this relatively high score.
Electronic music (trip hop?) with a strong ambience. Uncannily reminds me of Tiamat's Wildhoney, possibly because of the nature sounds. Has strange, completely unintelligible vocals. Sort of fragmented inside, though it seems to be a part of the "concept". There's something strange going on with the mix, having clicks and fuzz and other oddities in, but it seems they too are intented as a part of the whole.
First the mood is of an impossibly lush jungle. Then the concept switches to a sort of "twisted radio station" with bizarre takes on popular music genres. The effect is drugging, nauseating, but nice. At the end we enter a collapsing sphere of distorted guitar-esque instruments and mystical bells. My overall impression was: slightly haphazard but makes up for it by utilizing the randomness for conceptual purposes. Also the mood is amazing. Worth the experience.
This album seems to be spontaneous creativity exercises and steady IDM rhythms built into whole songs. There are some interesting things here too, but overall this release is just teetering on the edge of being worth ones time. Not necessarily very stimulating or rewarding (except to the artist).
An EP of instrumental heavy metal/melodic death. A critical flaw with these particular songs is that they would only work with vocals or other instruments (to bring lyrical insight or generally mix things up). This is just too little and too simple for pure instrumental metal. It doesn't work on its own and comes off as something dry and monotonous. It's well produced but tedious to sit and listen through.
EDIT: In the news page the artist said that these songs were indeed intended for vocals originally. Good luck for the future!
Black/death/grind metal demo/EP with an amazingly unnerving mix. It's not really heavy - it's more like a warm buzzing to one's ear. Reminds me of 8-bit times and a summer with insects flying around. This set of sounds does not necessarily portray evilness but it at least makes things interesting for a while. One last thing I have to mention about the mix is that it's not completely stable. The last song sounds noticeably different from the rest.
Composition is not generic, showing promise. Acoustic guitar is used to create messy texture or atmosphere. The shorter songs do not really grow up to anything but are not bad either. These kind of quick spurts are what grind is about, isn't it? The last song is the most normal of them all, with a clear, more developed structure and acoustic interludes. It's the best of them all.
Lasting only 9 minutes and being flawed, I'm not inclined to give it a higher rating. Nonetheless I'm interested in hearing more of these guys in the future.
Minimalistic electronic/jazz/other, with a somewhat enlightened but restless and dreamy mood. The ever-present saxofone makes things bluesy. Some ambient overlays bring both psychedelia and concentration to the sound. Things go from the traditional jazz mood to something strangely bouncy and even happy-sounding at times. Cometa's presence is recognizable from some compositional traits and synths. I don't know the other person in this project, but seems like I have to listen to his solo stuff sooner or later too.
Why not more points? The remix of Cometa's "Shine" is not very special in any way. It's pretty much the original song, except quieter and with saxofone inserted on top of it.
It's sort of heavy metal, only with very short songs and dark ambience intertwined between the metal parts. All the songs run to each other, and it's possible there's a story they're telling with their music & lyrics. Good sound all around, there's a decent atmosphere but also heaviness. Gets slightly redundant before the end.
