Communiste

WILLIAM MORRIS (1834-1896)

... was a lover of beauty in all its forms. He devoted his life to the gospel of beauty, when 19th century England was utility driven. Even in his socialism he was an artist, preaching communism because he believed that it was the way to a more universal appreciation of and search for beauty. He achieved both fame and influence in three important fields of work – literature, art and social reform. A romanticist, always painting strange and lovely pictures as he wrote. As an artist he was linked to the Aesthetic Movement which developed out of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, though his greatest work was done in revivifying certain other artforms. His socialist writings are full of distinction and grace. This work is based on a speech on Communism delivered in London in the 1880s.

Unfortunately I don't understand very well spoken English. But I think that it doesn't change the pathos of this album. It's a very interesting experiment to join spoken words and sounds. The whole composition seems to come from a timeless world with different cohordinates compared to ours!...And it's obvious, of course!! I think it points to the future. A future of different and best life for all!
Really very good and original work!!

ottimo lavoro

Is this a sound engineer's divertissment or a study in political junk dealing?
Mister William Morris was a forebearer of Applied Arts and aesthetically he preferred handicraft to assembly line production, i.e., with one hundred years of advantage, due to his cultural and social standing among Victorians he undrstood what is now clear to all of ours mothers, that if you want to adorn your house you have to look for the right craftsmen. His Socialism started and ended there.
I think- no, I am sure that Uberlulu's way of putting his Address to the Commons(?)in music would have schocked his contemporaries more than Mister William Morris Address's topics.
Maybe his address to the Commons now, after 119 years, is of public domain, but the figure of Mister William Morris is one of the least representative that today one could find.
Fell free to trust in the'800 & '900 Socialism Communists critics: Socialism earmed their scorn many times over in those times for its lukewarm
socvial theories.
About this Opus as it is heard here on Jamendo, this latter is a Radio and so noise-makers should implement its organic: noise-makers are organic to the medium.Best saving this soundtrack for some whodunit/ghost story, especially for a ghost story in the Marxist meaning of the term.Remember?
"A Spectre is wandering about Europe and Its name is Communism".

I've listened while reading the speech of William Morris to which Ivan gives his voice (you can find it here: http://www.marxists.org/archive/morris/works/tmp/commune.htm). It was an interesting experience, expecially to better understand how sounds and voice effects work to stress meaningful sentences.
The result is really evocative, like you're listening to a message coming from "outer space" whose words, strangely, tell you something about present times.
Congratulations Uberlulu and Ivan, your work could help not to forget ideals and ideas that could still help people.

ciao
Simone
