My name is Erik Vansaren.
I was born in north-eastern part of Italy on 13th July 1979. I’ve never lived in that city and I don’t even feel Italian, because my family came from Austria/Germany, but became Italian after the Austro Hungarian Empire and during the Fascism my mother surname’s had to change in Italian language.
My father is dead and the relationship with my mother and my sister are swinging. When I lived with my family she was the one at home that loved music and had many discos and mc.
Abba, Platters, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Sinatra, Franklin and obviously, classic music, that I as a six years child, hated and I found awfully annoying.
My mother would have liked her son to be a musician, so when I was ten years old I had to study piano. I think did less than three lessons, I thought piano had too many keys, too many pedals and my hands were too slowly to blow off my mind. Anyway, when I went to primary school I had to learn to play piccolo flute, and I loved it so much that when we played all together, I never breathed down on it and I only moved my fingers in a non-sense, messy way.
I’ve been a listener until 16 years old, taking up all music I could listen to, mostly was rock, metal and punk music, but I also listened rap, pop, disco and something of classic music when was at home. Every sound had a colour and an image in mind, after all, like now.
Watching at some friends playing in bands, I learned how instruments were made of, try to understand how to use them, how to connect a guitar to a marshall, and so on.
When I was nineteen I found my homelife so oppressive and nothing could excite my interest. I moved to Milan where lived less than two years. In that time I started to sing in my first metal band.
In 2003 I moved to Rome where I started a new metal band thinking of make our own cd and find a label. Band members played only for pleasure, so our band broke up. In 2004 I had no house where to live and I also loose my job, and I had just started to studied violin. For six months I lived as a homeless, sleeping on the buses, and I remember that also in those conditions, I continued to write the songs for the band.
Sometimes I played my violin as a street musician, but I strong believe that when someone gave me coins, was with the intent to stop my music.
I found a job in a Mcdonald’s and I hadn’t forgotten my musical project yet, paying my recordings, mixing and mastering my metal band’s cd, and I also started my lyric singing lessons.
One day, after rearranged one of my metal band’s song as if it could be played by violins, violas and cellos, my teacher Emira told: “good, well done” and added: “yes, but you had a base and you could work on it” so I felt defiance and answered to her: “do you think I’m not able to write some music?” and she replied me: “well, no, you’ve never studied music, you don’t know it” so I took up the challenge and declared: “well, I’ll write a symphony”.
The album “Quest for Theraclis”, doesn’t contain the symphony (1st,2nd,3rd mov). Unfortunately I hadn’t enough money to include also this symphony on my demo cd, so I recorded only some tracks of different kinds.
In 2008 I’ve participated to the Queen Elisabeth Competition, currently I’m participating to various contest composition.
I’m a singer in a metal band where I’m completing the recordings of the female voice and singer in a hard rock band where I must begin the mastering.
I’ve in plan to publish a collection of the compositions that have participated to the various competitions, while in May I’ll start the writing of some aries with the collaboration of a soprano.
I’m always looking for collaborations (possibly with remuneration) with artists, recording studios, theatres, cinematography house and software house that produce videogames.
