Messy, inventive and silly, this album contains several catchy tunes and a lot of clever nods to tired musical cliches, which are absorbed in a fresh mocking way. Gangster rap becomes the children's pose it always, at heart, was: romantic heartache is squeezed for its ludicrous, grubby side.
I want more. With juice and a fancy piece.
A really nice dance track with a bit of depth. It develops nicely.
Definitely worth a listen.
Not what I'd normally seek out, to be honest, but I have really enjoyed having this playing as I work. I don't feel qualified to comment really. I'll have to start researching ambient music.
Beautiful, though.
Oh yes indeedy. I'm three tracks in and I'm planning to buy the CD. This is the find of my short jamendo career and may well be my album of the Summer.
There's some Joan Armatrading in her voice (and in her guitar), a fair bit of Edie Brickell in her delivery, but without the twenty-take over- production. Her performances feel assured but spontaneous, as though she has been singing for a very long while and really knows her craft.
UPDATE I've had this on my ipod for over a week now and it's the only album I've played for most of that time.
Will buy CD next week (money a bit tight at the moment): Promise!
The best is, SHE CAN WRITE. I mean really write, with lots to say and the broad, adaptable writer's voice with which to find the proper tone for each topic. Check out the lyric images on her website.
Oh yes.
Pretty. An accomplished pianist and a strong voice. If the European tour gets close enough, I would love to hear her live. I suspect she'd be stunning in a small venue with a bottle of red wine and an appreciative audience.
Good for when you've been listening to Satie and want to stay in the mood. I'm downloading.
I really like the piano. I'd definitely like to hear more from them. It's sunny.
Strange, ghostly, slightly creepy. I dozed through a couple of tracks and had amazing dreams. I think I am going to like this more and more. The vocal arrangements are really good but it's Ms Johnston's voice that makes this album unique.
Bravo
