some pretty cool sound experimentation going on. noise without getting noisy, shall we say? "the purple cloud" has some very cheesy sounds in it, but i'm not totally sure that is a disadvantage. regardless, after a little while, they kind of meld into the other tracks, managing to decrease the cheese factor. the last track finishes things off nicely and is probably my favourite of the three, managing to bring to mind the first track while sounding nothing like it.
definitely one to keep your eye out for if you have a interest in experimental/avant garde/ambient composition.
it might just be because i'm horribly biased being that i have two tracks on here, but i think this is the best compilation ever.
not too shabby, good sir. though i do have quite the penchant for gunshots, (and the way they were used in the 2nd track was pretty cool), i gotta say that my favourite track on here is the first one. it's just more polished. you can tell that you spent a while putting it together.
nice work!
really interesting idea here. i definitely like what i hear. it's almost like if merzbow learned how to write a song or if swans made dance music.
really nice work here. production values are high and songwriting/playing is extremely competent. not something you necessarily hear on here all that often. there were a few parts here and there on here that stuck out at me. in my opinion, some of the vocals were not up to the standard that had been set with the music itself, and personally i would have liked to have heard more vocals in some parts as well. to me, they really seemed like an after-thought, and to hold that against this seems kind of petty, but hey, i guess THAT MAKES ME A PETTY PERSON THEN. i kid.
anyway, it's not totally prog, and it's not really just straight up metal. there are even some modern hardcore touches in there (don't let that scare you off) and some nice melodic bits. it's modern, but it definitely doesn't forget its roots.
if you're into shit like between the buried and me, sikth, iron maiden, dream theater, (i could go on all day), this is definitely one worth checking out.
It doesn't get much better than this. With professional beats and tight rhymes, this is definitely the real shit right here. Light years ahead of what's pretending to have any credibility, The Underground Collective have crafted an album that respects the roots of hip hop as much as it tries to push the boundaries. Though they never forget their purpose, there are a few missteps, but overall 'Underground Collective' never stumbles. Breathy, atmospheric tones sit next to old school funk and record scratches as A Cappella melodies, samples and fragile guitars lay out soundscapes. And everything centers perfectly, centering a perfect summer album.
If you've never picked up a hip hop record and are looking for a great place to start, you could do far worse than joining The Underground Collective.
Don't pay attention to the haters, man. You have songwriting skills head and shoulders far beyond them. Did I mention the production? The production is fucking righteous. I haven't got the faintest clue how you do it, man.
