So, after presenting it in pieces, here is the completed album, self to Self. I am posting in the month of June, in time for the third anniversary of the Rainbowland website. To my great joy and amazement, there have been over 60,000 visits to the Rainbowland site, and as far as I can tell, only a very few of them have been pornographic solicitations. Thank you for the gift of your presence with me through this music. If you have read this far, I will presume to offer this invitation: find a 48 minute window where you can be uninterrupted. Get you best head-phones… your favorite glass of wine… a really comfortable chair… and listen to “self to Self” all the way through. I know that albums are a disappearing art form these days. Still, all the pieces of this collection are lifted to a higher level when experienced in the context of each other. The whole is truly greater than the sum of its parts. Anyway, just a thought…. The journey of the album, self to Self, began with the writing of the prayer poem, “The Message”. This poem appears in sequential pieces throughout the album, and then is reprised in its entirety as the final track. The opening song, “Vision”, is the call of the higher Self and sets the tone. From there, the music journey visits a range of frequencies: the insanity of humanity… the experience of loss… It moves into an awakening of transcendence, appreciation and the exhilaration of new life at a higher understanding. But life never rests on its laurels, and the uncertainty of sudden changes inevitably return. Still, our “trips around the block” bring us a recognition of the spiraling movement, and a knowing of the transcendence through all the changes. We have come to see the divine, sparking through all the faces of our life experience. The final words of the closing song, “Love”, offer an answer to the opening call of higher Self: “Impetuous my heart, I trust you with my life. I will follow where you lead. Illuminate the night.” As always, thanks truly and deeply for listening. Even more for hearing. Love, Doug
