How do I create an account on Jamendo?
It's quick and easy! Just follow this link https://www.jamendo.com/en/login/signup, pick a username, a password and enter your email address. Don't forget to accept our Terms of use. You will then receive a confirmation email containing a link to activate your account.
What do I do if I can't access my account?
Make sure you didn't misspell your username or password. Also check that you confirmed your registration through the link that was sent to you by email. If the problem persists, please contact us at contact@Jamendo.com.
How can downloading on Jamendo be free and legal?
Jamendo can be free and legal thanks to Creative Commons licenses. They grant the right to download and share music for free and legally. Artists choose to use these licenses, and to use Jamendo as a means to share and promote their music.
What do I do if I stumble upon a track that seems to be copyrighted?
You have a doubt on the origin of a song or track? In spite of our vigilance, some tracks that are protected by copyright (samples, covers...) may end up unduly published on Jamendo, even though they do not comply with Creative Commons specifications. Do not hesitate to contact us at contact@Jamendo.com, we'll take necessary measures.
How do I make a donation to an artist?
First, you need to ensure that the artist accepts donations by checking that the "support this artist" button appears on their page. Clicking on it will open the payment interface. You can choose to pay through PayPal or with a credit card.
How do the radios work?
Thanks to our radios, you can listen to good music without having to look for it. At any time, you can download the track you are listening to or add the album to your favorites, while continuing to listen.
What is free music?
Free music is music that is not managed by performance rights organizations (PRS, ASCAP, SOCAN, BMI, BUMA, JASRAC...). Artists choose to protect their rights through specific non exclusive licenses such as Creative Commons. 'Free music' doesn't necessarily mean free-of-cost or devoid of any rights restrictions, it means "some rights reserved". Artists define what rights they grant on their music through their choice of license.
What is Creative Commons?
Creative Commons are licenses that enable musicians to give away their music for free while protecting their rights. They are easy to use and compatible with internet standards, and allow rights holders to authorize (or not) certain uses of their music, such as commercial uses and derived works.

Jamendo’s services for independent artists

  • General

What do I get as an artist on Jamendo?
Jamendo is the world's #1 platform for free and legal music downloads. Publishing your music on Jamendo guarantees you efficient referencing on the web, which will increase your music's visibility. Thanks to our community of members, Jamendo also enables you to get feedback on your music from around the world. You can check your popularity through detailed statistics. You can also opt in to commercial programs to get money and extra exposure.
What are Creative Commons licenses and their advantages?
Easy to use and compatible with internet standards, these non exclusive licenses make it possible for rights holders to authorize certain uses of their works. They can choose to allow or not commercial uses, derived works (remixes) and generally set the degree of freedom they want to grant web users on their music.
What are my obligations towards Jamendo?
You don't have any obligations or exclusivity clause with Jamendo. You simply distribute your music for free according to the Creative Commons license you chose. You can delete your account at any time, and your music will be deleted from Jamendo.
    Can I publish a cover of a song I didn't write?
No you can't unless the original song was published under a Creative Commons license and you respect that license. If the original composer did not choose this type of license, you cannot publish a cover of the song under Creative Commons because you do not hold the rights to the song.
Can I post my music on Jamendo if I am a member of a performance rights organization?
Unfortunately, no. Most contracts established by collective rights societies are exclusive and therefore don't allow artists to give away their music for free on the internet.
How does the statistics interface work?
Jamendo offers several tools to track the number of listens and downloads you get, as well as many other statistics!

You'll find a condensed version of these figures on your artist and album pages.

Then there is a more detailed interface you can reach from your artist page.

If you notice any discrepancies between the condensed and detailed stats, don't be alarmed.

The data shown in the detailed interface takes into account all the parameters concerning your artist account.

    Here are a few examples:
    • Favorites: your interface distinguishes an album being added as a favorite or an artist. The figures on your artist page do not make that difference.
    • Playlists: your statistics count the number of members who created a playlist containing at least one track of yours. On your album page, they are all mixed together, if you have several albums, if your album is playlisted as a whole, etc.
    • Page views: revenue share includes album pages. Detailed stats take into account all your album pages and your artist page.
    • Visitors: unique unlogged visitors are counted since the interface was released. We do not have data for the period before that.
    What is SafeCreative?
SafeCreative is an organization through which you can prove your musical works were composed by you at a certain date. They provide you with a certificate that will be visible from your album page and for each of its tracks.
How do I donate my money to an organization?
You can transfer your earnings to an organization or cause you're supporting. To do so, go to your admin panel and indicate the PayPal account of the organization you're supporting instead of your personal account.
  • Upload

How does the upload process work?
It's easy! Just go to the upload page https://www.jamendo.com/upload and add your tracks in our online interface. Once your tracks are sent, you can name them and place them in the order you like. After that, pick an artist name, upload your album artwork and choose the Creative Commons license you want. Your album will then be processed by our moderation team as quickly as possible.
How and in what format can I upload my music to Jamendo?
The formats we support for the upload of audio files are .wav, .flac and .aiff. These formats guarantee better audio quality.
What do I do if the upload fails?
If you are having difficulties uploading your music, you can contact us at contact@Jamendo.com, giving us the following information:
    • the link to your user account
    • the link to your artist page (if it has already been previously created)
    • the type of browser you are using
    • your operating system (Windows XP, Vista, Mac OS X, Linux...)

Our support team will be in touch as quickly as possible.
What do I do if I can't upload my album artwork?
Make sure your image is in JPG or PNG format.
When will my album be published?
After it's uploaded, your album will be moderated by our team who will publish it as quickly as possible.
Can I add tracks to an album that's already been published?
You can add tracks before the album is finalized to be published online. Once it's been validated, however, you can't add any more tracks.

How can I promote my music?

Don't forget to fill in your artist and album descriptions: the more information you give about you and your music, the more visible you'll be!
How do I get my music playlisted on the official jamradios?
Get your music heard by the greatest possible number of people, within Jamendo and outside. Reviews, listens, number of posted widgets, links pointing to your albums: all these make for vital statistics that increase the chances your music will trickle to the ears of our radio programming team.
How do I get more visits?

Then share your blog with your friends, fans and the Jamendo community.
  • Payments

When will my account be credited?
A 4-month period is applied to request your payment. All your revenues directly visible in “Uses of your music” will be credited 4 months later in the balance in your "Payments" section. You will then be able to request your money, as long as your balances in "Payments" are a minimum of €100 and/or $100. Regardless of the date you requested, the payment will be issued between the 1st and the 10th of the following month.

Jamendo music licensing

  • Legal & Performing Rights Societies

Does the purchase of a Jamendo commercial license make it possible for me to be exonerated from the fee of my national Performing Rights Organization?
Every possible measure has been taken in order to ensure that the artists available on our platform are not members of any type of Performing Rights Organization (such as PRS, SACEM, SGAE, GEMA, SIAE, etc.). You therefore won't have to pay royalties or any other type of fee to Performing Rights Organizations. In certain countries however, you might need to pay royalties to Performing Rights Organizations due to your use of the musical works, even if the artist does not belong to any such Organizations. It is your duty to take knowledge of such laws should they exist in your country.

    Here are a few examples:

    • If you live in Germany, you are going to be fully exonerated from the GEMA
    • If you live in Poland, you are going to be fully exonerated from the ZAIKS
    • If you live in Italy, you are going to be fully exonerated from the SIAE
    • If you live in France, you are going to be exonerated from the SACEM but you will still have to pay the SPRE due to the applicable French law
    • If you live in Spain, you are going to be exonerated from the SGAE but you will still have to pay the AGEDI due to the applicable Spanish law
    • If you live within the USA, you are going to be exonerated from any type of Performing Rights Organizations such the BMI or the ASCAP
What can I do in case of an inspection by a Performing Rights Organization?
All our customers are granted a certificate as well as a contract attesting that they indeed have the legal right to use the tracks they have purchased on Jamendo. Should your national Performing Rights Organization visit you, you just need to show them these two documents.
I have a valid Jamendo license but have nevertheless received a claim from Content ID (Youtube). What is it and what can I do?
Youtube has created a fingerprinting system allowing right holders to notify video-makers that their use of the music is infringing their rights. How does it work? Artists basically register their works under Content ID which is going to track down how their music is used on Youtube. Should Content ID find a video featuring a track registered in its catalog, it might directly issue a claim without taking into account the fact that the video-maker might have a valid license.

Should you receive a claim on your video through Youtube's Content ID system, the best thing to do is to dispute this claim by following the indications displayed in your Youtube interface and to indicate that you have a valid Jamendo license agreement.

If the problem persists, please do not hesitate to contact us directly so that we can assist you with this issue. You can contact us at directsales@jamendo.com.
  • General

    What are Credits?
You should consider the Jamendo credit system to be Jamendo's very own currency. Credits allow you to buy any track from our catalog. All you need to do is to preload your account with credits.
Why should I use Credits as payment method?
You actually buy credits as packs. The concept is quite easy to understand: buying a bigger pack means saving a bigger amount of money.

If you already know that you will have to buy several licenses in the upcoming months, you should therefore really consider buying credit packs in order to save money and thus reduce your producing costs.

Let's take an example: you already know that you will have to buy 4 Standard licenses during the upcoming 4 months. If you pay each license via credit card, you will have paid a total of 316€ at the end of these 3 months (79€*4). Should you choose the Jamendo credit system, you can just buy a credit pack containing 120 credits for only 249€. Since one Standard license can be purchased for 30 credits, it means that buying this pack is sufficient in order to acquire your 4 Standard licenses and you save 21% on the total price.
    How long are credits valid?
Credits have a one year validity starting from the purchase date.
    What is a VAT number?
A value added tax identification number or VAT identification number (VATIN) is an identifier used in many countries, including the countries of the European Union, for value added tax purposes.
My European VAT number is rejected by Jamendo. Why and what can I do?
We check every VAT number thanks to a platform created by the European Union allowing us to assess whether the number reported is valid or invalid.

If your number is considered invalid:

    • You first need to check if you haven't made any mistakes while entering your number.
    • You then need to be sure that your VAT number really is a European VAT number. You can contact your national tax administration in order to ask them if your number has truly been registered as a European VAT number
    • It also might be that the website created by the European Union is down. We therefore are unable to check whether your number is valid or invalid and our system will automatically consider it invalid. In such cases, you just need to wait a couple of hours and try again.

None of these reasons have helped you? Do not hesitate to contact us at directsales@jamendo.com
  • Single tracks for audiovisual projects

What is the difference between a Standard license and an Extended license?
They do not allow the same type of broadcast.

The Standard license basically allows you to synchronize the track you have purchased with any type of content broadcast online.

The Extended license encompasses the standard license but, depending on the options you have purchased, it might also allow you to synchronize the music with an application, a software or a video game. This Extended license can also grant you the right to broadcast your synchronized work in movie theaters, on the radio as well as on television.

Further details about these two licenses can be found on this page.
How long are your licenses valid?
    They are unlimited.

All our licenses have an unlimited duration which means that you will still be able to use your project synchronized with the track your have purchased in 50 years.
What are the available formats for the purchased tracks?
    WAV, FLAC or MP3.

Based on your needs, you can download the purchased track in the three above-mentioned formats.
Can I download a test version of a track?
    Yes.

Once you have found a track which might meet your needs, click on its name in order to be redirected to its dedicated track page on Jamendo licensing. Click then on “Download low quality mp3 version (for testing purposes only)” in order to be able to download a test version of this particular track.

  • Music Composition Service

What is Jamendo’s Music Composition Service?
The Jamendo Music Composition Service allows you to get custom music. Tell us what you need and we will look for artists interested in creating your dream track. Select one of the artists who has shown his interest and it’s done. Based on the deadline of your project, the selected artist will deliver your musical work in by the due date.

You are tired of browsing musical libraries knowing that some of your competitors might use the same track. You are looking for something unique, a musical work that can make your project stand out of the ordinary. Are you looking for a song that truly embodies the philosophy of your project and perfectly matches the atmosphere you want to create?

This is exactly what our Music Composition Service is about.

Ask the biggest worldwide community of independent artists to create a song especially for you and seize the opportunity to add something unique to your project.
    How does it work?
You first need to fill in our form in order to request a free quote. This form will allow us to have a better understanding of who you are, what your project (deadline, budget) is and most important of all, what type of track you are looking for (genre, mood, tempo, instruments, duration, etc.)

This form will then be shared with our artist community and those interested in creating such a track for you will send us their quotes.  In this quote they will add a link redirecting to their Jamendo profile as well as a link redirecting to a similar track they might have composed in the past. Highly motivated artists also have the possibility to create a first sample of the track you want to be composed.

Jamendo will gather the quotes and select the best of them. Those best quotes will then be shared with you and you will be given some time to discover the musical world of the different artists interested in your project. Once you have made your choice, the selected artist will start composing your custom track.
How can I be sure that the artists will be good enough to create my track?
All the artists will send Jamendo a quote. In this quote they will add a link redirecting to their Jamendo profile as well as a link redirecting to a similar track they might have composed in the past. Highly motivated artists also have the possibility to create a first sample of the track you want to be composed.

As a client, you can thus browse the profiles of the different artists who have transmitted a quote. By doing so, you have the possibility to become familiar with their artistic world and will be able to pick up the perfect composer for your project.
How much does it cost and when is the payment done?
You first are going to indicate the budget you have for our Music Composition Service. It will give our artists an idea of what you are ready to pay. Note that they have no obligation to send Jamendo quotes meeting your budget should they believe that you have underestimated the efforts required in to compose the perfect track for you.

The price thus depends on two different elements: the complexity of the musical work you want to be composed and the efforts it entails for the artists.

Payment will be done as soon as you have selected an artist you would like to work with. As soon as the payment has been completed, this artist will start composing a couple of samples so that you can validate one of them.
    How can I pay?
Payments can be done via Wire Transfer. As soon as you have selected an artist you would like to work with, Jamendo will notify you of its bank details so that you can complete the payment.
Do I then need to purchase a Jamendo commercial license?
Everything is included in the price of our Music Composition Service. This actually means that you then won’t have to purchase a Jamendo commercial license on top of the fee you have already paid. The duration of the license you will be granted is unlimited and you will also have the right to broadcast your project on any possible type of media/device (Internet, TV, Radio, Movie Theatre, PC & Consoles, etc.)

Depending on what you have chosen, you might also have an exclusive right to use the track that has been composed.
    Can I get a refund?
If you want to know at which stage a refund is possible, please have a look at the following steps:

    • You request a quote (free)
    • Jamendo contacts the artists and gathers their quotes (free)
    • You study the different quotes and artist profiles (free)
    • You select the best of them (payment stage, refund possible)
    • You request at least two audio samples from the selected artist (refund possible)

You can request two additional samples. If none of the samples meets your needs, a refund is possible. Once a sample has been validated, you won't be able to request a refund.
    Is an exclusivity contract possible?
Purchasing a composed track with an exclusive right to use it is possible. In their quotes, artists will let you know whether they are ready to grant you the exclusivity of the musical work they wish to create.

Note that should you request the exclusivity of the track, artists will logically have to charge you a higher fee.
  • Jamendo’s yearly subscriptions

What are the different payment methods available?
Monthly payments will be automatically conducted via direct debit.

Please note that Jamendo won’t store any credit card information. Every measure has been taken to guarantee you a 100% secured payment process.

Should you decide to pay your whole subscription in advance, you will also have the possibility to pay viaTransfer.
    Can I cancel my subscription?
The subscription is a yearly subscription with a one-year commitment. Cancelling this subscription is only possible at the end of this one year time window. If you do not want to renew for another year, please notify your account manager at least one month before the end of your contract.
